I went to track down an old friend, I'd heard he'd moved back east after living in Perth WA for years. There were mixed reports about his mental state at the time of his exit, it seems he had just walked out of his house, driven to airport, got on a plane and left with just some cash and a few clothes.By the time I found him three years had passed, he had settled in a small town out the back of Windsor NSW, got a job and old weather board house on the main road out of the town.He said he been through hell getting his act together but it was clear he still hadn't quite manage to get straight, he had his own crazy idea of a good time and he wasn't going to let it go. It beat him in the end, my good friend took his life and those of us who knew and loved him were shattered that he could leave us in this way.
If you know someone struggling with addiction, be patient, let them know they are loved and needed, make them seek professional help and hope for the best. The Beast is a blues for Ernie
